Paperbag Players

The
Paperbag Players, founded in 1958, are a company of adults who
create and perform original theater for children ages 4 through
9. Their shows combine short plays, dances, audience participation,
mime, painting and drawing on stage, and wonderful ragtime music
played live at every performance. The subject matter of the shows
reflects a child's everyday experiences—with a dash of the
fantastic thrown in! |

HUDSON
VAGABOND PUPPETS, incorporated in 1980 as a not-for-profit company,
creates larger-than-life puppetry and mask programs designed to
fit into the school curriculum as well as to entertain children
and their families.
Butterfly
takes a microscopic look at the insect world on the big stage!
From her tiny egg we will follow the Monarch Butterfly as she
grows through her caterpillar state and makes the amazing metamorphosis
in the chrysalis and her incredible 1,500 mile journey to Mexico.

Theater
First Inc. is launching a new initiative that introduces middle
and high school children to relevant professional theater that
addresses important life issues and also serves as a platform
to re-introduce the arts as central to learning.
History of the Word follows six high school students
over a single day at Future High where they navigate a world filled
with hope, fear and the constant need to be accepted. The characters
struggle to find acceptance and empowerment through their study
of language and history. It celebrates diversity with a cast from
all different ethnic backgrounds and features current social and
political topics that affect our society and communities.

Jeffrey
Frace’
A Residency on Shakespeare
March 3 through 14
Mr.
Frace’ will be working with students in grades 6 –
12 on a version of Skakespeare’s “Macbeth”
Mr
Frace's directing credits include As You Like It, Hamlet,
and Romeo & Juliet for Stonington Opera House; A
Midsummer Night's Dream for Arkansas Shakespeare Theater; King
Lear for Point B Productions; Mother Courage and Her Children
and 1984 for People's Branch Theatre in Nashville; Don Giovanni
for New York Repertory Ensemble. He has appeared as an actor
in over 50 professional productions, recently appearing as Bianca
in Taming of the Shrew at Stonington Opera House, and as Puck
in Anne Bogart's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which
toured New England. He regularly teaches workshops
and master classes at professional theatres, colleges, and performing
arts high schools. He was an Associate Artist with Anne Bogart's
SITI Company from 2001-2007. He holds an MFA from Columbia University.

Smirkus”
March
17 – 21 and March 28 – April 4
“Circus
Smirkus” , the award-winning international youth circus,
will bring its “Smirkus School Residency Program”
to the Reach Performing Arts Center. A professional circus coach
will come to the DIS School for a two week program to share
circus skills and enthusiasm with the entire school community.
“Circus Smirkus”, a non-profit organization based
in Greensboro, Vermont, provides a format for children and adults
to collaborate in the life-enhancing adventures of the circus.
Students are encouraged to participate in juggling, unicycles,
human pyramids, clowning and balance skills.

“African Story Teller”

Len Cabral, an expert in African
Culture will provide performances and workshops, using the art
of story telling, for students in the Reach Performing Arts
Center and in the DISES Library.

Fever Theatre Presents
“South Pacific”
March
28 – 30
Cabin Fever Theatre will present three performances of Rogers
and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” at the Reach
Performing Arts Center on Friday and Saturday night March 28th
and 29th and a Matinee on Sunday March 30th.
