Dear Students, Parents and Families,
I want to express my thanks for your allowing me the opportunity to work with your children. It is an honor to be part of such a beautiful community. I want you to know that I will do everything in my power to make Deer Isle - Stonington Elementary School (DISES) a safe, nurturing place for all children to learn, that we can all take pride in.
I hope to be working with staff, students, families, and the community as a whole to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all the students who come through our doors. In order for this to happen it will take all of us working together. I welcome you to contact me with your ideas, concerns, or questions, as it is only through communicating honestly and openly that we can make progress towards our goals. I am passionate about learning and let me assure you that my total focus will be on what is best for the students of this community.
Thank you, Ms. Magoon
About Me: I grew up in Ellsworth, Maine, and can think of no place I would rather be than here on the coast of Maine. I had many jobs before I became a teacher and am very interested in learning and trying new things. I have been a cook, engineering assistant, graphic designer, as well as a counselor working with families and young people. I graduated from the University of Maine in 1995. I moved to Laconia, New Hampshire where I taught middle school, math, science and language arts. I then moved back to Maine in 2004 to be with family and on the coast. Back in Maine, I have taught at Center Drive School in Orrington, Ellsworth Middle School, and most recently Troy A. Howard Middle School in Belfast, where I taught science and math and was the chair of the Math Department. I have been a proud member of the Maine Physical Sciences Partnership and believe it is important to strengthen STEM education in Maine. I most recently received my Master of Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University.
I have a wonderful family that includes my father, my son and his wife and my two incredible grandchildren. I have a great wealth of friends and believe the ability to form quality relationships with others is the key to a happy and joyous life. I built my own house, and love to ride my motorcycle when I can. I enjoy all seasons, skiing, hiking and the water, as well as sports of all types. I am hoping to be able to make time to watch some of our teams in action and cheer them on.
