We will be having a public forum on safety concerns immediately before the School Board Meeting on January 2nd. The forum will be held in the High School Cafeteria at 5:30 pm. The following letter is from Mark Jenkins, Superintendent.

"Deer Isle – Stonington Community School District Public Forum

Dear Parents and Community Members,

I invite you to an open forum meeting to discuss and air concerns you have surrounding all of the terrible and tragic news we have lived with since last week. This is not intended to be a presentation, although the principals and I will answer any specific questions you may have, but rather a chance for us and the school board to check ourselves and to be sure we are doing everything possible to protect children.

It is easy enough for me to tell you we have procedures and safeguards in place but we need to hear what you are thinking and feeling about your children and their physical and mental well being. In addition to this main point, I hope the conversation moves on to ways in which we can assist each other in lessening the emotional impact and long term anxiety in our children.

The meeting will be on January 2nd, at 5:30 PM, in the high school cafeteria. The regular school board meeting will convene following the meeting. Please feel free to call or contact me if you have any comments or further suggestions.
