1. Chairman Walter Kumiega called the meeting to order and declared a quorum
at 6:03 p.m.
2. A moment of silence was observed.
3. Citizen’s Comments There were no citizens comments.
4. Approval of Agenda
Motion by Eaton, second by Cormier, to approve the agenda as presented. Vote:
4 yes; 0 no.
5. ACTION ITEM
A. British Literature Field Trip
DISHS English teacher Lee Lehto presented a request for approval of a field trip to New York City to see a production of “Spamalot”, with visits to the Cloisters and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Motion by Eaton, second by Adams, to approve the British Literature field trip. Vote: 4 yes; 0 no.6. EXECUTIVE SESSION
Motion by Eaton, second by Cormier, to enter executive session at 6:10 p.m. on a student matter pursuant to MRSA § (405)(5)(B). Vote: 4 yes; 0 no. Participants were Cormier, Adams, Eaton, Kumiega, Ring and Webster. The school committee returned to regular session at 6:44 p.m.
7. EXECUTIVE SESSION
Motion by Cormier, second by Eaton, to enter executive session at 6:45 p.m. on a student matter pursuant to MRSA § (405)(5)(B). Vote: 4 yes; 0 no. Participants were Cormier, Adams, Eaton, Kumiega, Wendell and Webster. The school committee returned to regular session at 7:16 p.m.
8. ACTION ITEMSA. A Student’s Enrollment Status
Motion by Eaton, second by Kumiega, to expel an eighth grade student for deliberately disobedient and deliberately disruptive behavior. The student may request readmission upon presentation of satisfactory evidence that the behavior will not recur and with parental and student commitment to abide by a behavior plan. Vote: 4 yes; 0 no.
B. A Student’s Enrollment Status
Motion by Cormier, second by Adams, to expel an tenth grade student for deliberate disobedient and deliberately disruptive behavior. The student may request readmission upon presentation of satisfactory evidence that the behavior will not recur and with parental and student commitment to abide by a behavior plan. A. Support Staff Substitute Pay
Eaton suggested School Committee consideration of a raise in support personnel substitute pay from $7.25 per hour to some higher rate. The current rate is so low that it is very difficult to engage subsitutes for educational technicians, cooks and custodians. This will be an action item on the next agenda.10. Adjournment
