1) Call to Order and Declaration of a Quorum:
Chair
Kumiega called the meeting to order and declared a quorum at 6:35 P.M.
2) Moment of Silence:
A
moment of silence was observed.
3) Citizen Comments:
Shari Ciomei asked to speak with the school committee on the choice of the boys varsity basketball coach.
Motion by Brewer, second by Eaton to enter executive session regarding a personnel matter at 6:40 p.m. Vote: 5/Y, 0/N. Walter Kumiega, Barrett Brewer, Aimee Eaton, Mark Cormier, Jim Adams, Skip Greenlaw, Robert Webster, Shari Ciomei, Wayne Ciomei and Tim Robbins participated. Returned to regular session at 6:55 p.m.
4) Approval of the Agenda:
Deletion of Action Item B.1. Addition of Action Items G. Grant
Acceptance and Discussion Item D. Window Project. Motion by Brewer, second by Greenlaw, to approve agenda
as amended. Vote: 6/Yes, 0/No.
5) Approval of the minutes of the May 4, 2004 and
May 12, 2004 meetings.
Motion by Eaton, second by Adams, to approve the
minutes. Vote: 5/Yes, 0/No

6) REPORTS
A) Elementary School Assistant Principal
Kyle
Webb reported:
á
The school had some alarm problems which started at
approximately 1:30 p.m. The
company has been called and is working on the problem.
á
There are many activities planned between now and the
end of the school year including:
plays, field trips, Camp Kieve, concerts, Step Up days
á
The honors banquet was well attended.
á
There was a workshop day last Friday.
á
The 8th grade will be making a trip to
Boston
á
Fine arts activities will be held in the building this
week.
B)
High School Principal
Penny Wendell reported:
á There is a lot of activity at the high school with the school year coming to a conclusion.
á An honors banquet was held for those who achieved honor roll grades for the first three quarters of the year.
á The volunteer tea was successful and very nice.
á The Quebec trip was wonderful and everyone was well behaved.
á Katy Helman and Dennis Saindon took part in the Art Festival last week.
á This Friday the Artist in Residence, Kevin Campbell, will be performing.
á Class night will be held on June 4.
á There is a wonderful article in Working Waterfront regarding our marine trades problem.
á The Promising Futures grant has been renewed. Only two out of eleven schools were renewed. This money is to help strengthen our advisory system.
C) SuperintendentÕs Report
Robert Webster reported:
á The
school lunch program is in the red for the last month. However, this is much better than in
years past.
á A
list of committees has been distributed.
á Peter
Dane is not available to be the moderator at the budget meeting. Rich Avery will to be moderator.
7) ACTION ITEMS
Robert Webster reported that the
agreement included a 3.4% wage increase, 7% health insurance benefit increase
and an additional three paid holidays.
There were also language changes which had no monetary impact. Barrett Brewer thanked the negotiating
committee for their hard work. Motion
by Greenlaw, second by Adams to ratify agreement. Vote: 6/Y, 0/N.

6. Employment of Summer Cleaning Crew
Robert Webster nominated Linda McCauley and Rosalie Jones for summer cleaning crew positions. Their pay differential is $.90 per hour. Motion by Greenlaw, second by Adams to approve Linda McCauley and Rosalie Jones for summer cleaning crew. Vote: 6/Y, 0/N.
7. Summer Special Education Program Staffing

Webster nominated Dorothy Conte – Teacher, $35.00 per hour, Sue Steed
– Teacher, $38.00 per hour, Donna Foster – Occupational Therapist

Robert Webster reported that we received three bids: J.W. Sewell at $.06 per square foot; WBRC at $.20 per square foot; and, EMG at $.10 per square foot. The State will refund the cost of ½ of the stu
